The clergyman Joel Hawes visited in the company of Rufus Anderson Europe and the east in 1844, spending almost 9 months in Asia Minor, the Holy Land and Turkey, where his daughter was a missionary. Original brown cloth with blind-stamped decorations in gilt on both covers and spine. Ext. rubbing and corners bumping, signs of water-stains and spotting throughout. Scarce.
