Wordsworth (1807-1885), bishop of Lincoln, scholar, Biblical commentator and prolific author, travelled in Greece in 1832-33 and he was the first Englishman presented to King Otto. He was a keen observer and his conjecture of the site of Dodona was confirmed by Carapanos. His works on Greece and Athens & Attica "are still books of authority." Contemporary embossed fabric bound, with centered amphora-ornament in gilt; richly decorated spine, rather worn and faded. Visible edge and corner wear, inner joints restoration.
