[Γαλλικός χειρόγραφος χάρτης Νάουσας - Πάρου 18ος αιώνας] “Plan de la rade de Nausse dans l’isle de Paros”. French Manuscript map of Naoussa port of Paros 18th century. Manuscript nautical map 50 x 36cm, entitled “Plan de la rade de Nausse dans l’isle de Paros” on paper bearing unidentified watermark, with contemporary hand-colouring and key of four (4) places of interest within map (text in French). The details and quality of the provided information suggest that the map was designed on spot by French officers, resulting in a detailed naval survey of the gulf of Naoussa. On the lower right corner there is a key of four (4) places of interest marked on map with capital initials A-D and named there as: A. Nausse / B. Moulins / C. Calori ou Monastere Grec / D. Isle des Sapirie. These are indicating A. the settlement of Naoussa, B. The windmills, C. Probably the monastery of Saint Georges, D. The islet Gaidouronisi (Γαϊδουρονήσι). The on spot measurements indicated on map are 58 (depth soundings), while 3 anchorages are graphically positioned with indication of depth soundings for each of them. Shallows are depicted as dotted areas. The coastal geomorphology is depicted graphically. The settlement of Naousa is also depicted graphically along with the windmills and a “Greek Monastery” on a cliff south of the settlement (most probably the Monastery of St. Georges / Μονή Αγίου Γεωργίου). Few other build structures are noted along the coastline and on the small islets of Agia Kali (Αγία Καλή), Agios Artemios (Άγιος Αρτέμιος), Galiatsos (Γαλιατσος). As usual for nautical charts, there is absence of information about the hinterland. The map is designed on contemporary paper that was later cut along the designed part extremities and pasted on modern thick paper. Some light spotting, otherwise in Very Fine Condition. Extremely Rare.
