Printed in Paris (Bance / Delpech / Benard) between 1820 & 1821, at the eve of the Greek Revolution against the Turks. The 4 works, bound in two contemporary bound volumes, are the following: “Sujets de lIliade dHomére, gravés daprès les compositions de John Flaxman, Sculpteur Anglais” with 33 full-page engravings. “Sujets de lOdissee dHomére, gravés daprès les dessins et compositions de John Flaxman, Sculptr. Anglais” with 28 full-page engravings. “Compositions D’Apres les Tragedies D’Eschile dessinees par John Flaxman sculpteur anglais” with 31 full-page engravings. “Ouvre des Jours et la Theogonie D’Hesiode. Composes et dessines par John Flaxman et graves par Mme. Soyer 1821”, with 36 (of 37) full-page engravings. During his seven year stay in Rome (1787 to 1794), the British sculptor and designer John Flaxman received a commission from Mr. Udney and Mrs. Hare-Naylor for drawings after the Iliad and the Odyssey, from Countess Dowager Spencer for Aeschylus drawings. Contemporary binding, leather spines and thick carton boards. External extensive wear along spine and extremities, internal spotting. Collated with the copy of the National Library of the Netherlands.
