Contemporary full calf, boards & spine tooled in gilt, marbled edges. Front board detached, spotting only of the frontispiece and the title page, otherwise interior clean and fine. Christopher Wordsworth (1807-1885) toured in Greece in 1832-33 and considered to be the first Englishman presented to King Otto. The fine plates are drawings of Robert Cockerell, a prominent English architect who was with Wordsworth in Athens. The interesting and detailed description of Attica just after the independence was the first published work of the author and one of the rarest. Blackmer 1839
