The author was a Scottish diplomat and explorer that have extensively traveled in the Levant initially as a member of Sir John Malcom’s mission (1808-1809) and few years after individually. The author provides detailed descriptions of his journeys from Vienna to Constantinople, from Constantinople to Ankara, continuing to Kayseri (Καισαρεία) & Papadokia, Latakia, Cyprus, Karamania, Konya (Ικόνιο), the south shores of the Black Sea visiting Samsun and Trabzon (Σαμψούντα & Τραπεζούντα) and heading to Erzurum, Bitlis, Mardin, Mosul & Bagdad.
