Two letters showing usages on the outgoing and returning passages of the French vessel "Alphee" in March 1862 between Marseille and Constantinople. This ship made only three travel on this route. This one was the first. Cover A: Front of unpaid cover from Marseille 15.3.1862 to Patras. The ship "Alphee" on her 1st of only three trips to the Levant had no ship-cancel aboard, the name was written from the agent by hand under the stamps (SallesII, 56 and 176) taxed in Patras with 188 lepta with a 5-colour franking of Paris prints. Cover B: Letter from the same travel back with handwritten name of the ship "Alphee" from Constantinople March 26 1862 to Athens March 17, taxed upon arrival with 80l. Paris print. There is no other pair of this travel known. A unique duo of postal history documents, the first cover been one of the most exciting we have seen. (Hellas 1a+2a+3b+5a+7a)
